USA Considering Re-Starting Nuclear Test Program
The U.S officials have discussed holding the first US nuclear test since 1992 as an open warning to Russia and China, the Washington Post report.
These talks began right one day after the U.S pulled out of the Open Skies Treaty with Russia which was designed to improve military transparency and confidence between the Superpowers.
The US official are thinking about to end Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) and start nuclear test .
What is CTBT ?
- US & China both signed but neither country has ratified it, and – partly as a result – the agreement has not come into force.
Why the U.S thinking about Nuclear test?
The main reason behind the U.S thinking is China and Russia. Recently, The US state department says that China may have conducted a low-yield nuclear test underground secretly at Lop-Nur nuclear test site during 2019. And the US intelligence is saying that Russia is also conducting the low-yield test very secretly during the years.
Low yield nuclear Test means that Nuclear bombs can have a range from 1 kiloton to 50 kilotons
The issue came up from the meeting of U.S senior officials representing the highest national security agencies on May 15, following an accusation from administration officials that China and Russia are conducting low-yield nuclear tests -- an assertion that has not been substantiated by publicly available evidence and both countries have denied.
Actually there is no comparison between China and US in terms of number of Nuclear Warheads.
China = 290 (Official Data)
US = 6,185
But the USA motive behind this move is to add pressure on China and show their dominant in the world. And establish US supremacy again.
Impact on World
If U.S indeed does does conduct nuclear tests and pull out of CTBT then it means the world will head towards a new nuclear weapon testing frame work where countries like Iran create tensions in gulf region. It may be effect the U.S. Because Iran and U.S have not good relation.
What should U.S do restart nuclear test program or not?
