USCRIF(US Commission for International Religious Freedom) recommends 14 nations for designation as CPC(countries of particular concern) in its annual report.
These include nine countries that the State Department designated as CPCs in December 2019- Myanmar, China, Eritrea, Iran, North Korea, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan as well as five others - India, Nigeria, Russia, Syria and Vietnam in report by USCIRF.
Since China was under the CPC by USCIRF, it was inevitable that U.S congressman would table a bill calling for sanction to be imposed on China due to religoius discrimination.
US Senate is the upper house of the United States of Congress
The US senate gave unanimous consent to bipartisan bill on Thursday, that would impose sanctions on Chinese officials over human rights abuses against Muslim minorities an action sure to anger Beijing as anti-China sentiment rise in Congress.
The bill introduced in Senate by Senator Marco Rubio, would condemn the internment of more than 1 million Uighurs and members of other Muslim minority groups in the region of Xingping China and calls for closing the camps.
At that time the bill is on the table of President Trump. It would require to impose sanctions on and revoke the visas of any officials found to be responsible for the oppression of the Uighurs.
CHINA media news heading on the bill is "Uighurs bill damages worst in decades bilateral ties" and said US mocked for Uighurs bill cares more xingping than American's lives due to coronvirus.
If US imposed sanctions then it will become second time in the history when US imposed sanctions on China. First time when China buy S-400 air defence system and S-35 fighters jets from Russia.
The Uighurs bill is a serious altert for those countries who are coming under "countries of particular concern" like India and Pakistan according to USCIRF.
Thanks
