Recently OIC had its virtual meeting of 57 countries representatives to the UN discussed important issues from around the world.
Maldives defends India and comes out with a strong defence to counter Pakistan. When Pakistan tried to raise the issues of Islamophobia and Minority in India.
Munir Akram, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UN proposed that India is actively promoting the Islamophobic agenda.
In contradiction, Maldives replies to Pakistan that India is the largest democracy of the world and home to over 200 million Muslims and alleging Islamophobia would be factually incorrect and detrimental to religious harmony in South Asia region as Islam has existed in India for centuries.
The Maldives noted that India has developed stronger ties with the Islamic nation such as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Afghanistan and Palestine in recent years. These countries have honoured Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with their highest civilian awards.
India and Maldives are close and friendly neighbours, recently India sent a naval ship "Kesari" to the Maldives for the consignment of Covid-19 related medicines and two medical assistance teams.
India is also a first country who recognize the Maldives after its independence. PM Narendra Modi choose the Maldives for his first foreign trip in the second term.
The Maldives is also an important country in the Indian Ocean region lies between Asia and Africa connecting ships from one continent to other.
